| The ChangePoint Criminal Justice
and Substance Abuse Program (also known as the ChangePoint Probation
Program) was conceived in 2001. The main objective of the program
is to serve the community by offering treatment and professional assistance
associated with substance abuse and criminogenic risk factors. The
unique aspect of this program is its ability to initiate treatment
at any stage of the clients substance abuse/criminogenic condition.
This is accomplished through a program design and methodology that
is based on mutual cooperation and understanding between client, probation
officer and ChangePoint clinician. The ultimate goals of this program
are to stimulate clients to discover their own personal value and
self worth and to find ways to make positive contributions to themselves,
their families and the community. |

| Key Elements of the Criminal
Justice and Substance Abuse Program |
|
| Treatment. The treatment
approach for substance abuse/offender clients is founded on evidence-based
studies and combines cognitive behavioral treatment with a strong
emphasis on motivational interviewing. Aggression replacement therapy
and dialectic behavior therapy are also used in the treatment process,
which is focused on promoting client change in a pro-social and positive
direction. |
|
| Counseling.
Treatment includes group sessions as well as individual counseling
as required on a case by case basis. |
| Relapse Prevention
Therapy. The program places special importance on skill building
aimed at preventing future substance abuse/criminal behavior. Skill
building (personal and social) therapies focusing on relapse prevention
include the understanding and identification of primary risk factors
related to substance abuse and crime. |
| Case Management.
Treatment includes case management and referrals to employment readiness
agencies, housing services, mental health counseling, mutual help
groups, psychiatric care and medical care as needed. |
